As I enter my senior year, I sit back and realize that this is the end of a chapter. This chapter is all I’ve known for the past three years. As I reflect on these past years I ask myself, “Did I accomplish anything during my years at Ripon High?” No, I am not talking about getting an A on my chemistry test, even though I was super proud of that one. I am talking about did I gain the knowledge I need to be successful for my future. Did I make a difference? It doesn't matter if it was big or small. As I ask these questions to myself, I realize how important Ripon High is important to me. Having a part of your daily life stripped away from you can be hard to adjust to. All I’ve ever known was going to school from 7:50 am to 3:00 pm and seeing all my peers. The withdrawal of the connection you receive at school is what hurts the most. For it is my last year, I was expecting all the senior activities. From the start of my freshman year, everything was leading up to this moment. I know life will not always work in your favor but when your normal is gone, how do you truly manage. I know I cannot dwell on issues that are out of my control, so I try to stay positive for the school year. I expect that we will not go back to school as it was set up before. I think the only way we will go back is if there is a hybrid model in place. With digital learning, I try to make the most out of the zoom lectures we have. I try to gain as much knowledge as I can. With leadership, it has been a challenge for everyone in the class to go virtually. I wish I could connect with the younger students and act as a mentor. Essentially, that is what I want out of the program. I want to be a mentor and I want to leave my legacy. This year is my last year and it is important for me to leave my impact. I hope that I can make the most out of this and truly become a legacy leader.

“Doesn’t expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected?”- Bob Dylan
The pandemic has changed our lives from the start of March. No one was expecting that a virus would take over our way of life. The world went into panic as information started to spread. With everything shutting down, nothing was the same. Everyone was comfortable but shouldn’t we expect the unexpected more? It is a very challenging time but we can't let it overcome us. It is how you persevere when the unexpected does come.
“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”-George Bernard
The progress that comes from others, starts with the mindset that they have. Mindset plays a big role in order for someone to take action. This quote relates to me and my opinions on the sustainability of our current time period. Climate change is a big issue right now and many people have a fixed mindset. They don’t want to believe the concerns. This can also be applied to leadership. If you don’t have a positive mindset for the tasks of leadership, how can you succeed?
“Someday you’ll look back and understand why it all happened the way it did.”-Unknown
In some instances, I think, am I making the right decision? Will my outcome be the one I want it to be? I know that all my life lessons won’t come easily, so that is why I try to understand them so deeply. In the moment, I may not understand why my life can shift so swiftly. The best thing I can do is live with the feeling of having prosperity. By being confident, it will help me live more happily. Everything happens for a reason and I hope I can look back on my past with acceptance.

“When you face difficult times, know that challenges are not sent to destroy you. They are sent to promote, increase and strengthen you.” -Unknown
As I was searching for what quote applies to me as a leader, I stumbled upon this one. As this quote may not describe my qualities as a leader, it describes the situations that I am placed in and how I overcome being a leader. This quote relates to my current academic school year and the leadership class. With Covid being an obstacle for normality, leadership has missed out on having many events that we would put on for the school. We have also as a class, missed out on many opportunities such as in person core camp and planning dances. Although we have missed out on a “normal” year, we have made adaptations to our events. When you are a leader, you are going to be put in difficult situations and it is about how you overcome and persevere through. At one point or another, life is going to change around you and it is about whether you are going to go along with the change. This quote is an important reflection for future students because life is constantly changing but know that obstacles are what make you a better leader.

Page 4- Goals
Goals for leadership:
My goal in leadership is to be a supportive leader for our school and student body. I have a voice since I am a student leader. Times are tough and not being able to be with our peers is hard. I hope that I can promote optimism to our students. Another goal is to be a mentor to the freshmen. They need all the help they can get because leadership via zoom is difficult. I want to help them get accumulated into the class.
Short term goals:
My short term goal is to maintain a 4.0 gpa. This is a top priority for me since I am applying to colleges. I am very focused on my schoolwork and meeting deadlines so I believe I am capable of doing this. My grades have been all A’s thus far. My other short term goal is to make the most out of my senior year. I am looking forward to our fall fest since there will be safe (social distancing) events. Although I am missing out on the senior activities, my peers and I are persevering together.
Long term goals:
My long term goal is to work for the United Nations. Ever since I went to the conference they conducted, I have been nothing but inspired to work for them. I feel like this is my calling and is what I’m supposed to do. My other long term goal is to leave a legacy through others. I want to be remembered for the impact I have made. This impact doesn’t have to be big, but I want it to be worthy. An example of this is to create an organization that funds the victims of the Syrian War. Hopefully my career choices will lead me down the road to complete this impactful goal.

One of my goals for leadership was to be a supportive leader for our student body during these tough times. I felt that I accomplished this goal by hearing out ideas from the student body and promoting events that the school was able to hold. Although many students were not in favor of revamping yearly events they were used to, I tried to stay optimistic and promote the new ideas that were in place. Another one of my goals for leadership was to be a mentor to the freshmen. I felt that I could still work on this goal but I know that I have been a peer that they are comfortable to ask questions to. During homecoming, certain freshmen were asking me questions about paperwork and I was very thrilled to know that they could come to me. I have not yet completed this goal because it is still a work in progress. A short term goal for the school year was maninting a 4.0 GPA. Last semester, I ended with a 4.0 GPA and I was very proud of myself since online school was very challenging. Being able to push through the difficulties of online school shows how determined I am at doing better. This semester I currently do not have a 4.0 right now but I know that I will be able to work hard these next couple of weeks. One of my long term goals is to work for the United Nations. Although I cant complete this goal right now, I am currently working towards steps to complete this goal. I am continuing my education at a UC and I am majoring in International Relations. I also had recently done a mock interview with an official who worked for the United Nations previously as a political affairs officer. By meeting with a professional, It has opened my eyes to this field of work and has also allowed me to hear personal experiences. I hope that I can stay in touch with this young gentleman and hopefully in the future work with him and also network with other officials. Lastly, my other long term goal is to leave a legacy through others. I still have the rest of my life to complete this goal but as of right now, I am leaving a legacy at Ripon High. I have completed all four years of leadership and feel that my efforts in the program have left a legacy on my peers and the student body.

Gracie Jaime is a seventeen year old girl living in the small town of Ripon, California. Known as the almond capital, living in a small town is not for Gracie. As for everyone else, they can't wait to get out of this town. Although Gracie does not like the small town vibes, she appreciates growing up in a safe environment. She has also been reflecting on how this town has shaped who she is and how sad she will be when she leaves for college next year. Well, Gracie hopes that's a possibility next year. With the impact of Covid-19, Gracie has missed out on the beginning of her senior year. With no future senior events and distance learning, Gracie is feeling jipped out of this school year. Gracie has been looking forward to all the festivities that come along with your senior year. “I am really bummed that I am missing out on so much. Although it is very upsetting, there is a pandemic happening. People are dying, it is a troubling time. I try to stay optimistic and make the most out of my situation,” stated Grace Jaime. She is in charge of the multicultural club and is involved in student government. With being involved in the school, this has helped Gracie adjust to online learning and it has made her school year more fun. Gracie tries to stay positive during these times and hopes she will at least receive a graduation ceremony.
Home life: Gracie Jaime comes from a mixed family, her races are Mexican and Caucasian. She is very proud of her mexican roots and heritage. Gracie Jaime stated, “I remember when I was a little kid that I would tell people I was Mexican. They would instantly respond with, well you don’t look Mexican or do you speak spanish? I know now that race doesn't define who I am. I am Gracie Jaime and that’s all that matters.” Gracie Jaime doesn’t have a lot of traditions but she does know the importance of family.
Purpose: Gracie Jaime has a long term goal set for herself. Ever since sixth grade, Gracie has felt inspired to do something beneficial for our planet. One day, Gracie was shown a video of how polluted the planet was and how plastic is taking over. Gracie stated, “Ever since I watched this video, my mindset never changed. Some people don’t care at all but I do. I feel I can’t just sit back and watch our planet get damaged. We need this planet for future generations.” Gracie has been to a youth assembly conducted about different world factors. She learned more about solutions and felt the United Nations was her true calling. Gracie has also been open to voicing what she is passionate about. Gracie’s current future plan is to go to a UC and then work for the United Nations.

My role model is my best friend Deicia Gutierrez. She has impacted my life by always being supportive and helping me with my anxiety. She has taught me that life is worth taking risks, in the end you will miss out on many opportunities if you don't. Deicia is my sister and I appreciate everything about her. She is a caring, loving, beautiful, and strong young woman. Deicia thrives in what she believes in and will never back down. She is the role model I look up to and I thank God everyday for putting her in my life.
Page 10- The Inner Animal
The insect that best describes me is a butterfly. A butterfly is a sensitive creature that lives in cycles of expansion and personal growth. It is important for butterflies to go through important changes with grace and lightness. I believe I relate to a butterfly because change is always happening and it is how you persevere through it. I used to have trouble adjusting to change but now I see the beauty within it. Although I may be sensitive, I don't let my insecurities stop me. This insect is symbolic for my personal transformation because I know my life will be changing after high school. I identify myself with a butterfly because I will be going to college next year. I need to see myself as this insect and adjust gracefully. It will be hard but I need to remember how important this next step is for me.

Page 11- the season of giving
1. What did you choose to do for your final and why?I chose to do the giving tree. I decided to pick this option because I felt that it was necessary to directly help a child during these times. With the effects of Covid-19, many have had to make sacrifices by not buying gifts this holiday season. Many will have to go without this year due to the pandemic. I’m happy that I chose this option and I hope the child was fulfilled with their gift.
2. Describe the process that you went about in getting your final completed.
The tag that I received was a seven year old boy that was asking for clothes and toys. Since I wanted to be able to provide both, I decided to get him what he wanted. I went to Target and picked out pants, a long sleeve shirt and a jacket. I then went to the toy section and got him two tech deck toys. I hope the young boy will be content with the items I picked out.
3. What was the emotional impact on you in completing your final?
When completing this final, I came to a realization that the young’s boy’s first choice was clothes. This really affected me because clothes should be a necessity and not an item many should have to spend money on. By realizing it was his first choice, I knew that this was an item he needed. New clothes are a necessity and I am more grateful for the clothes I have.
4. Was this assignment valuable? Why or why not?
I believe that this assignment is highly valuable. I think that it is important to give back in any way during the holiday season. Especially with Covid, I think that giving back is necessary since many families are struggling this year. Any act of service or kindness is truly the best way to celebrate the holiday season.

Page 12- The Best Things about Me
The first picture represents the confidence that I have within myself. I have recently learned the power of self love and how important it is. Without loving yourself, how can you be expected to love others? By being confident in yourself, you live a happier life. The key to being an overall happier person is loving yourself. To be a great leader, you have to be confident in what you stand for, so start small!
The second picture represents leadership. By applying the skills I have learned through being in leadership, I was able to acquire many great opportunities. The United Nations Youth Assembly was a powerful event where I was able learn more about the organization. My goal as a leader is to be able to work for the United Nations. I wouldn’t have been able to attend this event without the skills I have learned in leadership.
The last picture represents my yearn for adventure. I am the type of person that is always on the go and looking for something to do. I love to travel and learn about new places outside of my small town. With the career I want to do, I hope I get to travel a lot along with the job. I crave excitement and that is why I love exploring.

Page 13- Why I like best about being a member of leadership
What I like best about being a member in leadership is the resilience that is within the program. Although Covid-19 has stopped our program from putting on our usual events, it hasn’t stopped our creativity. We have persevered and came up with ways to showcase spirit throughout online learning. We have also been able to do more within the curriculum and I have learned about amazing topics that I can apply to my life. I have also learned more about other students in the class since we have been able to get more personal. I have learned more about the personalities of the newbies and their quirkiness. I am upset that my last year in leadership is not ideal but I make the most out of the time I have left in the class. A true leader is selfless during these times and tries to help others. I know that my class is missing out on events and opportunities but we have to be grateful for what we have. I will definitely miss this school year and this class.

Page 14- Homecoming 2021
My favorite change with Homecoming this year was the group dance we did for the night rally. I liked it better than the lip sync and had so much with my peers. I also liked the poster making and seeing all the creativity from the classes was great. I hope that the future leadership classes can keep these adaptions because they were really fun.
Page 15- What I love to do...
One of my favorite hobbies is traveling. To me, traveling is one of the best eye opening experiences and it can impact the way you see the world. Visiting new places is what brings me great joy. Traveling is one of the best forms of education anyone can receive. Going to other countries is important in understanding how others live and also understanding other cultures. The mind craves new experiences and traveling is a fulfillment to that. My favorite trip was when I went to Italy. I have dreamed of visiting Rome and was shocked at how beautiful the layout of buildings were. I fell in love with the way of life and the people I met too. Without this experience, I wouldn't of been able to understand Italian culture first hand.
Page 16- Letter to parents/ guardians
Dear mom and dad,
I cannot truly express in this one page on how much I truly love you. I cannot imagine another life without you guys in it. The little things such as coming home everyday and running in your room to tell you something crazy. I couldn’t picture these moments with anyone else. The unconditional support you gave me from day one makes me the person I am today. You told me to strive for being the best version of myself and never less. I may try to justify my laziness with my un-logical arguments, but in the end you guys are always right. You both made my siblings and I your first priority which many parents don’t do. The sacrifices were hard at times but I saw two amazing and strong people take on these sacrifices. Growing up this way, I have learned nothing but love from two genuine people. Yes, the spoiling does go along with this and that's always a treat! Hopefully one day I can pay you guys back either by making you proud or just literally giving you money. The moments may not always lay on the sunny side but they have only made our relationship grow. Yes, I have made many mistakes and disappointed you. All I know is that I can’t takes these back and they can only benefit our relationship. This past year has already been the most eye-opening yet but I’m happy to face it with you guys. I couldn’t ask for better mentors! You know that I am going to make many mistakes in life but trust me, I’m only human. Just know through all the negativity that love will conquer all. That is what truly matters to me. I know that our relationship and love is unbreakable. Not trying to sound cheesy or anything but you two are truly my best friends. I am going to miss you both so much when I go away to college but I will not be that far! Also, don't think I favor because I don't. I go to both of you for equally different reasons. All jokes aside, I love you both so much. I just hope one day I can pass on the same love I received to children of my own. I truly was raised but two awesome people and that’s just an understatement. Thank you for everything and all you do. I couldn’t picture my life without you!
Sincerely,
Gracie.

The ASB Executive Board Member is an important essential role to the ASB team and to the leadership class. You are a representative to all the schools in the district and are working alongside professionals. The policies you vote for and your opinions on matters are important to the district. Always be aware that board meetings happen every month, usually the second monday of every month. These are subject to change since in December, you have two board meetings. Also holidays may change this too. The meetings start at 7:00 pm and they are at city hall. This may change sometimes and they might be held at the high school library. Make sure you show up at least fifteen minutes early because you need to go over the agenda and your report with Mrs. Gilbertson. Also, make sure to plan ahead and that there are no conflicts with attending the board meetings. One thing I wish was done differently is actually knowing what policies you are voting for “mean.” I didn’t have access to view the policy handbook but I’m sure if I asked, I would be able to read them. I knew the gist of the policies but not the logistics of them. Never be afraid to give your opinion and always make sure you are a part of the conversations happening. It is easy to zone out since the meetings are hard to follow sometimes but try not to. Just know that the other board members will ask for your opinion of policies and other subjects so be ready to have an answer. The board meetings are to the public so be careful what you say. Try to stay on the topic of the conversation, you want to understand what is going on. The most important aspect is to retain what you talked about in the board meetings and debrief this information to the leadership class and the ASB team. Take notes during the meetings so you have clear information you can write in your ASB formal reports. You are a representative to Ripon High and to all the schools in the district. Try to receive input from other students and hear their concerns!

Page 19- The Professional
Professional learning is one of the main subjects we talk about in leadership. Professional learning is used in our everyday duties. From writing formal thank you cards to signing a budget on file. One aspect that I would like to talk about is the mock interview component. Due to COVID-19, the interviews happened via Zoom. Although the interviews were online, it made the experience accessible for others to talk to someone in their field of interest. In a way, it was a blessing in disguise. We had lessons on making resumes and cover letters, then we had to make our own. With this being my third year in leadership, it can get a little repetitive. Even though some of it may be, the current trend is always changing on resumes and cover letters. By having access to the internet, you can send your resume and cover letter digitally. Depending on the job you are applying for, there may be different layout requirements you should have. For example, with tech companies, you may want to keep your resume more modern looking and maybe add a picture. It all depends on the profession you are interested in. The layouts may always be changing but the purpose of a resume will not. Another aspect was the formal ASB meetings. These meetings consisted of approving the purchase of items, new ideas, and documenting motions. You have to dress professionally for these meetings. You also have to write a report with a certain layout. Everyone is not obligated to share their report but you may if people are absent.
Page 20- Change
Out of all my years in leadership, this year was the most challenging. With not knowing whether certain events were happening, nothing was ever certain. Although this year was the most difficult, I learned the most from it. One of the most frustrating times was when we didn’t have a homecoming in the beginning of the year. Although we had a revamped homecoming in the second semester, it wasn’t certain. I was very upset that I would spend my last year in leadership not being able to have a homecoming. I looked forward to this last year of high school and the events that came along with it since I started high school. At that moment, I felt defeated. At times, I wanted to give up because I felt that it wasn’t worth it. I know having a fixed mindset is bad but I couldn’t get past the negativity. In the end, I learned that a true leader adapts to their environment around them. They don't give up in times of struggle. They push forward and reinvent themselves and their work. I could have said this last year I learned this, but I would have never had first hand experience on how it felt. This year was eye opening and taught me so much for my future years. I am so grateful for the leadership class this year. Everyone in the class did a great job with the revamped events and really pushed through the end of the school year. It was tough at times but everyone deserves credit for their perseverance. My change for the future leadership class is to really appreciate the meditation we do in class. I know many students do not take it seriously but we should all try to appreciate Morty helping students' well-being. I hope that next year's class gets some sense of normality. I think it's important to not lose sight of meditation because the young mind can be corrupt. It is important to focus on your mental health and being able to do this in class makes you feel safe. I wish all the best for next year's leadership class!
Page 21- The Ideal Leader
“True leadership lies in guiding others to success--in ensuring that everyone is performing at their best, doing the work they are pledged to do and doing it well." --Bill Owens
An ideal leader is someone who is willing to put in the effort not for one’s self, but for the sake of others. They are leading for a purpose and not only for one’s success. They truly want to make a difference with their environment, career, ambitions, etc. This is a broad example that could be applied to anyone. In the leadership classroom, students should be expected to lead. It’s one of the key factors of the program. A student should create more leaders in their environments. In regards to class activities, they should have a good attendance and are engaged in the topics being discussed. Students should be an active participant and only be focusing on the prompt of the class. Completing homework for this class is an essential. The homework that is assigned is related to character work and mindfulness. When planning events, students should make sure to carefully plan with the time frame they have. If time is used efficiently, then the students should be prepared and the event should be a success. There may be obstacles such as Covid-19, but you have to execute the event to your best ability. Also, all leadership students should promote events for leadership even if they aren’t specifically in charge of it. This shows the level of teamwork and involvement of the students. An acceptable attitude for the class is wanting to be a part of the course. You have to show and make an effort in order to succeed in the class. This class will show you true integrity and character.
